Rajnath Singh inaugurated a 10-feet tall statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Darshan

On December 10, 2023, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated a 10-feet tall statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Darshan near Rajghat, joined by Vijay Goel, former Union Minister and Vice Chairman of Gandhi Darshan. The event drew a crowd of over 2000 attendees from various parts of Delhi. On this occasion, Rajnath Singh shared a meal with members of the Dalit community.


During his address, Rajnath Singh hailed the newly unveiled statue as a fitting tribute to the Father of the Nation, emphasizing Gandhi's pivotal role in India's struggle for independence and his dedication to uplifting the weaker sections of society. Singh stated that the statue reflects the government's commitment to following in Gandhi's footsteps, with initiatives such as Jan Dhan Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, and Swachh Bharat being inspired by his principles.

Singh underscored the enduring influence of Mahatma Gandhi, asserting that his ideas continue to resonate in the hearts of every Indian. He highlighted global leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela who drew inspiration from Gandhi's vision for the betterment of their nations.

Rajnath Singh paid tribute to other Indian revolutionaries such as B R Ambedkar and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, characterizing them as guiding lights for the government. He reiterated the government's commitment to peace, social harmony, unity, and developmental change.

The Defence Minister emphasized the government's focus on planned progress, resulting in India becoming the world's fifth-largest economy. He viewed Gandhi not just as a freedom fighter but as a figure integral to the government's efforts to uplift and empower all sections of society, believing that comprehensive growth would enhance the country's security.

Vijay Goel, in his address, highlighted the government's attention to marginalized sections, noting their increasing presence in various sectors. He interpreted Mahatma Gandhi's vision of 'Antim Jan' as empowering the Dalit community, echoing Ambedkar's multi-pronged strategy for Dalit empowerment and liberation.

Goel regarded the marginalized sections as the largest aspirational class in the country and commended their contribution to national development. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi with carrying forward the legacies of Gandhi and Ambedkar, especially in the upliftment of the Dalit community. Goel praised Modi's sensitivity to their empowerment, citing the launch of 'PM Anusuchit Jati Abhyuday Yojna' for providing employment to unemployed youth in Scheduled Castes in rural areas.

The event witnessed the presence of notable figures such as Executive Member of Gandhi Darshan Dr. Mahesh Sharma, BJP leaders Lal Singh Arya, Ramvir Singh Vidhuri, Virender Sachdeva, Anita Arya, and others. Dr. Jwala Prasad, Director GSDS, welcomed the gathering. The occasion was enriched with captivating performances by students from Delhi University Music Faculty and artistes from Kathak Kendra, leaving the audience mesmerized.
